What is your favorite Umbraco moment?

As my job title suggests, my main responsibility is helping our customers succeed in their day-to-day work with Umbraco.

Even if it can be tempting to simply “fix a problem”, I believe in educating them so that the next time they might be able to fix or create something on their own.

I remember specifically a customer wanting to create a new item in their site’s main navigation. When I told her to simply create a new page under the main node, she was surprised by the simplicity.

It might seem like a small thing, however, simplicity is also what makes Umbraco such a great CMS for both developers and editors.

What in your Umbraco career are you most proud of?

How quickly I’m learning.

I started out a year ago having to assign most of our support tickets to our web developers.

Now I’m able to handle most of our Umbraco-related inquiries on my own, taking on both bug-fixes and further development.

What about Umbraco keeps you coming back for more?

From what I’ve seen this far, Umbraco really lives up to its slogan “the friendly CMS”.

Everyone I met in the Umbraco community and the support team has been friendly and very helpful.

In September, I got to go to the Umbraco Sweden Festival with a couple of my colleagues. A highlight that was both educating and a nice way to get to make new acquaintances in the community.

What are you currently working on?

No big projects going on right now and my schedule varies a lot from day-to-day.

My Umbraco related tasks for today are adding some functionality to a slider and implementing dynamic controls for it.

What are your top 3 best tips for an Umbraco newbie?

  1. Google and Our Umbraco are your friends and in my opinion, you learn a whole lot more by figuring things out on your own, rather than having someone tell you the correct answer.

  2. If the above fails, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone has been a newbie at some point.

  3. Just do it – even if we all learn in different ways, you won’t learn anything without trying.

Any aspirations for your future?

Working on my programming skills and getting more into the developing side of things.

What book are you currently reading?

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and I listen to a lot of audiobooks whilst driving to and from work. I just finished "It" by Stephen King and currently, I’m listening to Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.

What’s playing on repeat on your headset?

It differs, however, these days it’s mostly Devin Townsend, Anneke Van Giersbergen or Lana Del Rey.

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was just a kid and as I’ve grown older, I’ve also grown more or less all-consuming, listening to everything from metal to rock and pop.

Loved by developers, used by thousands around the world!

One of the biggest benefits of using Umbraco is that we have the friendliest Open Source community on this planet. A community that's incredibly pro-active, extremely talented and helpful.

If you get an idea for something you would like to build in Umbraco, chances are that someone has already built it. And if you have a question, are looking for documentation or need friendly advice, go ahead and ask on the community forums.
