Umbraco 4.11.0 released

Friday, November 23, 2012 by Sebastiaan Janssen

Oh happy day!

Umbraco 4.11.0 is here, fixing a few dozen bugs found in 4.10.0 and including some more pull requests/patches delivered by community members.

The upgrade couldn't be easier, just overwrite the /bin, /install, /umbraco and /umbraco_client folder and follow the upgrade wizard. You should also change the version number in your ClientDependency.config file. This is to clear the cache so that updates to the backoffice UI (js/css/html) will actually be visible to you and your editors.

There's one breaking change (easy to work around) and no database upgrades since 4.10.0 so if you're on 4.10.x, the installer will only change the version number in your web.config.

If you're not on 4.10.x yet, make sure to follow the upgrade instructions of the versions between yours and 4.11.0.

So now it's time to dance the weekend away:

Great news. Is there anything special I need to do if I have Courier 3.0 installed?

  2. Gravatar ImageSebastiaan Janssen Says:

    @Chris Nope. :-)

Special moment, the last of the 'fours'...

Hi, i have updated my 4.10.0 website that was using defaultRenderingEngine=MVC and overwritten config folder too. My templates seem to be empty so i have changed defaultRenderingEngine to MVC again (was overwritten in the update) but the templates keep empty.
If i browse views folder i find my cshtml with the code. I think it ignores defaultRenderingEngine. If i create a new template it creates it using defaultRenderingEngine=Webforms instead MVC.

Hi, I'm very new to Umbraco so I'm bound to ask stupid questions, but... I have one empty installation that I've populated with my own content, updated to 4.11.0 and that works fine. However, I wanted to add a blog to my site so I installed the blog starterkit, updated it and it shows error "parsing XSLT file" all over the place. What am I missing?

Followed the instructions and getting the upgrade page but no amount of clicking "Lets get started!" will move on from that landing page.
    - please release things when they work.

I was expecting support for partial views in macros of 4.11.
    Disappointed.

Why do I keep seeing things for Umbraco 5 when it's only on version 4.11? Also, why does my friend have a site that says it is version 4.5 if 4.11 is the latest version?

  9. Gravatar ImageDavid D. Says:

The best of Umbraco 5 is being ported into the Umbraco 4.8+ version. 4.11 is read four point eleven, hence 4.11 is greater than 4.5. Complete roadmap can be found at http://our.umbraco.org/contribute/roadmap

First time upgrading Umbraco. A little unclear to me what I need to change in the ClientDependency.config. Is it: and if so to what? 2?

First time upgrading Umbraco. A little unclear to me what I need to change in the ClientDependency.config. Is it: clientDependency version="1" fileDependencyExtensions=".js,.css" and if so to what? 2?

  12. Gravatar ImageDavid D. Says:

4.11 works great; we just ported two 4.9.x projects to 4.11 that did not work natively on 4.10.x.

  13. Gravatar ImageSebastiaan Janssen Says:

@Michael Yes, just change it from 1 to 2. This requirement will be removed soon, but for now it is needed in order to clear the cached html/css/js. So you will only see the improvements we made to the backoffice when you clear the ClientDependency cache.

    Hi Guys,
you said there were no breaking changes.. just wondering how I can keep track of what has changed because virtually all of my inline razor and partials blew up because of the GetPropertyValue change.. I went from 4.10.1 to 4.11 and just wondering for future reference so i don't get stuck in the forums trying to search for what may or may not have changed is there a single point of reference?

  15. Gravatar ImageKasper Says:

So again i was disappointed. When will the media picker support the grid layout? This have been promised in every single release since 4.9 but have been continously pushed to a future version instead. Isnt hard really to meet your deadlines when you simply adjust the scope to match every time.

  16. Gravatar ImageKasper Says:

@Kasper: Ever since the announcement of the new UX ("Project Belle") we've said that ui enhancements have been moved to there. We've also updated the roadmap to reflect this - so I don't know where that promise is to be found!

Hey @Tom I apologize, I actually updated the downloads page with the one breaking change that we do have, it's easy to fix though. Have now also updated the blog post.

@Miku You need to take out the old requesthandler references in the web.config (so: umbracoRequestModule, viewstateMoverModule and umbracoBaseRequestModule). Please read about the config changes here: http://bit.ly/TykeeY

Guys, can I just ask, in this blog:
    http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2012/10/30/getting-started-with-mvc-in-umbraco-410.aspx

It was stated that 4.11 would contain support for partial view and child action macros, but clearly it does not.

I'm on the verge of portint my v5.2 site over but without support for action macros it's a bit of a deal breaker.

That's a shame, when can we expect this now, version 6?

  19. Gravatar ImageArie Says:

I understand that Gangnam Style is all the rage at the moment, but I find it a bit problematic to find the video prominently displayed here.

Some of Psy's lyrics wouldn't get past the blog filter, and his anti-American rant and his suggestion to "kill daughthers, mothers, and mothers-in-law very slowly and painfully" are troubling to many people.

I'm aware that these were not his own lyrics (he 'merely' sang them), that the translation may show a bit more nuance (although not much), that President Obama is rather enamored with Psy, that the singer (sort of) apologized, and that he's very popular.

Although I do appreciate the jovial atmosphere on the Umbraco site, promoting artists like Psy makes it more difficult for me to convince certain clients and prospective clients to embrace Umbraco.

  20. Gravatar ImageNiels Hartvig Says:

@Arie: I'm sure you can find a CMS that wouldn't embed any Youtube video somewhere, thus is a safer choice for you and your clients.

I have been using and working with CMS since 2001. I find the Umbraco upgrades living hell. Generally it will freeze or you get a yellow screen that cannot be interpreted as it doesn't tell you where the error has occurred.

If you leave a comment about a problem like the database freezing at 35% you get no help in the forum and if you search you don't find an answer.

DNN is the best upgrading CMS as it displays an upgrade list and highlights the areas where you have a problem.

With Umbraco its either success or total failure.

I have tried to upgrade Umbraco 4.7.1 to 4.9.1 and have had no success and I have tried 32 times.
