New Hire at Umbraco HQ: Joachim Stapelfeldt
My new job at Umbraco HQ
Mojn 😊 My name is Joachim, I am 32 years old and I am one of the latest additions to the Umbraco HQ team.
I will be working as a Steward of Reliable Operations at Umbraco HQ. My focus will be on making Umbraco Cloud even more amazing than it is today. I will be the first dedicated operations guy in the company, so while my colleagues will continue to make more functions for Umbraco and Umbraco Cloud, I will be the one making sure it is stable, reliable and fast.
In my previous work life, I have been working in the hosting business for around 10 years. During this experience, I have done everything you can possibly imagine: support, operations, management, development, and even tried some test and QA once. This got me to know the whole chain when operating a system as is for example Umbraco Cloud. And I am so excited to be a part of such a talented crew of employees trying to change the world one bit at a time.
My Umbraco buddy and Azure Guru Morten is helping me with settling in the office.
While we are changing the world, it will be done with all the new technologies imaginable in the cloud. Being able to use and take advantage of new technology to provide a scalable and solid platform for thousands and thousands of user friendly websites will be an epic adventure – and doing it with the team at Umbraco will be once in a lifetime opportunity.
My previous experience with Umbraco and Umbraco Cloud is limited, but with some hard work and the help from my awesome colleagues I am more than certain that within a short period I will be able to help you bring an even more stable, fast and scalable Cloud.
Who am I?
I was born and raised on Funen and now I live in Nyborg together with my beautiful wife Anna and our adorable dog Margrethe. We bought a house some years ago and are finally settling down, after a few years of living in various parts of Denmark and Sweden.
Chief Adorableness Officer Margrethe
When I’m not busy petting our dog (and the wife of course) I’m enjoying life with my new-found interest in golf. I believe it has got to be the most frustrating activity ever invented on the planet Earth. I still have huge problems hitting the damn little ball, even though I try to play a few times each week. But I never back down from a challenge so I guess in a year or five I’ll play a full round without hurting myself or the golf course (yes – you can get hurt playing golf!).
After petting the dog and screaming at small balls, I enjoy spending time in the kitchen making food and drinking wine. I’m a huge foodie and 90 percent of our vacations are about “restaurant options”. I use a lot of my inspiration from restaurants when we have friends and family over for dinner.
It's not all gourmet, I love ice-cream and Lego as well.
Further into the rabbit hole 🐇
I can’t wait to get cracking and getting further into the rabbit hole. I have been here for a week, every day I am learning new stuff, and I am confident that I will soon be able to help out and improve the Umbraco Cloud.
And the best part is that I will be a part of this amazing community: I had the chance to meet some of them at Codegarden last month. So I got a sneak peak into the Umbraco world even though I started a week ago.
Ohh. A small addition to my professional life: I have to mention that I was in the quarterfinals in the Danish Championship in Excel in 2016!* Just a small mention, so the Friendly Cashier can expect some head to head combat in Excel skills at the office.
*Every participant in the championship was automatically in the quarterfinals because of few attendees.
