Umbraco UK Festival 2017
The Cogworks is bringing back the 80s for the UK’s biggest Umbraco event of the year!
We’re bringing the Umbraco UK Fest to London for the 8th year running, so it seemed pretty apt to go with an 80s theme! Join us on Friday 3rd November, in your loudest 80s shirt (mandatory) and neon leggings (optional), at London’s Barbican Centre for our very own take on Club Tropicana and prepare for a totally awesome Umbraco 80s throwback.
We spoke to UK Fest head organiser Callum Whyte about what you can expect from this year’s Festival and here’s what he had to say:
What’s in store for attendees at this year’s UK Fest?
The Festival will kick off with The Cogworks’ answer to Umbraco Bingo, to get you pumped and ready for a day jam-packed full of Umbraco awesomeness, followed by a welcome note from our Cog-in-Chief Adam (some of you may know him better as DJ Shallcross). This year we’ve introduced Community panels, where members of the Umbraco community will be giving valuable advice on a variety of topics, including organising meetups and Umbraco Cloud deployment strategies. The Festival will be rounded up with a keynote presentation from the Umbraco Chief Unicorn - Niels Hartvig.
We’re really excited about this year’s venue, we’ve not hosted the Festival somewhere like this before and it’s pretty unique! Just a few minutes from London’s tech hub of Old Street, The Barbican provides the ultimate space for ideas and knowledge to be shared amongst the fantastic Umbraco community (details about the exact location will be kept under wraps until the festival itself, but we can promise you’re in for a treat!)
What can attendees expect to take away from the Festival?
We may be throwing it back with the theme this year, but when it comes to the talks and workshops, we’re really looking forward. With the release of Umbraco 7.8 coming soon and V8 on the horizon, attendees can expect to gain a real insight into the future of Umbraco and the exciting technologies on the way. There will be talks on a range of cool applications of new technology within the CMS, such asMicrosoft Azure cognitive services. We’ve worked hard to ensure the talks cover a range of new topics, there will also be case studies, Agile workshops and talks on Umbraco in business for all you PMs, AMs and CEOs out there!
We’ve taken on board your feedback from last year, and there’s going to be less workshops and more talks. We’ve made sure the workshops we have are world-class, to give attendees the most valuable hands-on experience possible. Keep your eyes peeled for the workshop sign-up coming in the next few days, spaces are limited and it’s sure to fill up quickly. After the success of last year, the community space is back, and gives a chance for attendees to talk about their chosen topic in a relaxed informal setting. It’s the perfect opportunity for first time speakers to gain some confidence in a super friendly and supportive setting.
In addition to the usual merch, we’re ramping up the goodie bag to match the 80s theme and we’ve got some incredible prizes up for grabs thanks to our sponsors including licences, tickets to Umbraco events and even training courses!
Who’s behind the UK Festival?
Back in October 2010, Cogworks Co-Founder and CEO, Adam Shallcross put on the first ever Umbraco UK Festival and since then, it has continued to grow and attract large numbers of people from the UK and beyond over the ensuing 7 years. This year is set to be the most international Festival to date, with Umbracians from over 14 countries attending, coming from as far as Australia and the USA!
The Cogworks make no profit from the festival and put it on purely for a love of the Umbraco community, within which we are active members, both as individuals and as a company, helping out wherever we can. This year will be the second UK Fest senior CogDev Callum has organised and we’re excited to see what the community presents on the day - we have talks lined up from some of Umbraco’s finest, so it’s set to be a great day! We love to see the community come together like this, and we hope this year will be a memorable one (providing everyone comes sporting their dodgy 80s outfits!)
There’s still a couple of last minute tickets available - if you haven’t got yours yet, what are you waiting for?! Sign up now for a jam-packed day of Umbraco fun!
(Pssst... we're running the official Searching and Indexing Umbraco certification on 2nd of November, for those coming to London for the Festival who haven't earned their badge yet, sign up for it now! )
