Welcome to the squad: UMAKERS from Denmark becomes Umbraco Gold Partner
How Umakers came to be
We, the current UMAKERS, were working as independent freelancers and then joined forces a couple of years ago. Before I became self-employed, I used to work in a big Danish bureau and during that time I’ve worked with a fair share of bad CMSs.
Back then I tried to get Umbraco into the scene. It had just become open source and was a new fresh kid on the block. However, it was a little bit too early, open source was still considered the insecure choice, which is completely the opposite today of course. So around 2005 I decided to go freelance (jesper.com) to do Umbraco project full time. Then 2,5 years ago Søren Tidmand and I teamed up as UMAKERS and soon after Alex Skrypnyk joined.
Partner up? We're developers with benefits.
And so a couple years ago we formed UMAKERS - a developer house with the sole purpose of developing Umbraco solutions. We also know how to manage both small and larger web projects. We’re a perfect match for any design agency who needs a partner for development.
We also do complete web projects for customers directly starting from scratch to launch using partners/freelancers.
Meet your makers
When we thought of the company name, it made total sense. Umbraco Makers. Since the beginning you fall in love with Umbraco in a way. It may sound a bit corny, but it’s true. It is kind of the feeling I first had when I discovered LEGO as a child. And I consider Umbraco as kind of a LEGO thing. We can build anything with it. Not that you should, but you could.
We are the smallest international company you’ll ever find, the most ambitious though. We are 3.5 people placed in two locations: Denmark and Ukraine.
A general rule in life for me is - while we're here let's make it fun and rewarding. This we've adapted in UMAKERS. Still - we are serious about what we do and we do take ourselves and our customers very serious.
Why is Umbraco so good for us?
Umbraco is like a blank canvas and we can build on it by adding what we need instead of having to deal with a lot of irrelevant stuff. The CMS never gets in our way.
The positive feedback we get from the customers is telling us that we’re doing the right thing. They love the product just as much as we do.
What makes Umbraco so distinctive from other CMSs is the community vibe. It was present back in the days and it is still there now. We’re still very much active!
Back in the days Umbraco hit a sweet spot. There was a need for a CMS like this. And I think you could say that Umbraco continues to hit that sweet spot. We love the direction Umbraco has taken becoming a beautiful CMS you can build upon freely without it getting in the way. Umbraco Cloud is the same - simplifying the processes around building websites with Umbraco.
And then came the Gold Partner decision
For a while we were postponing the decision to become an Umbraco Gold Partner, simply because we’re small. And in a funny way we felt we were already Gold Partners. However it feels right. I don’t expect a huge difference, but I think I already felt it. There’s a lot of focus on us. That we can always use.
“Finally we have UMAKERS joining the Gold Partner family! It feels though like they’ve always been that golden part, as they have done so many good Umbraco projects over the years... I guess this goes to show that the value in the Gold Partner program fits various sizes of agencies,” Anders Trans Sørensen, Major Friend Maker, Umbraco HQ
Becoming Gold Partner is also a way to tell your customers - “we got your back”. We can confidently say that now.
