What are Bridging Courses?
(if you all caught up on this, please feel free to go straight to the Bridging Course page and pick your courses)
Let’s start with the basics; Bridging Courses are specially structured and designed courses focusing only on bridging your skill-gap between Umbraco version 7 and Umbraco version 8. Thus, the courses each build on top of the knowledge you’ve already acquired by previously passing the official Umbraco 7 course.
You can view these courses as a “top-up” of your current Umbraco 7 skill set. A top-up that’ll teach you all the brand new features, functionalities and workflows you’ll find in Umbraco 8. And because it’s a top-up, the courses are shorter than the regular full courses (only 1.5 - 3 hours each).
And as a friendly encouragement for you to up your skills and certification to Umbraco 8 as well as a friendly push for you to start building best-practice sites in Umbraco 8, we offer these courses at a very affordable price: €300-€400. Yep. That’s a fraction of the price compared to full Umbraco 8 courses (€1000 - €1200)!
Which Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 8 Courses are available?
We offer 5 Umbraco 7 to 8 bridging courses:
- Umbraco Fundamentals, €400
- Extending the Backoffice, €300
- Umbraco, MVC and Visual Studio, €300
- Application Integration, €300
- Searching and Indexing, €300
All 5 Bridging Courses are available up until Tuesday the 31st of December 2019. This means you have to make sure you’ve both bought and passed the courses by this date.
Please be aware that there is no way to assign the Bridging Course, so the buyer of the course also needs to be the same person who’s taking the course, thus, the purchasing email has to align with the Umbraco Developer profile of the person taking the course (if this is not possible, maybe because you're buying with a company credit card or buying several courses at once, reach out to us and we'll find a fix!)
Three of our official Certification courses don't have matching bridging courses (Cloud Developer, Content Management, Security) - the overall reason for this, is that either the main learnings in these courses are not Umbraco 8 specific - or that the learnings/structure etc. have changed completely, thus, a full course is needed in order to level up to Umbraco 8.
If you've passed the Umbraco Load Balancing course, you'll be given free access to the matching bridging course by the 5th of July - keep an eye out for an email from us.
Who can go on the Bridging Courses?
Simply put; if you have already passed the equivalent course in Umbraco 7, you can go on the matching bridging course.
And after you’ve completed the bridging course test, your certification points will automatically be updated from your Umbraco 7 certification to Umbraco 8 for that specific course.
If you have a certification that’s earlier than Umbraco version 7 or don’t have any at all yet, you’ll need to go on full Umbraco 8 courses.
How do Bridging Courses work?
The Bridging Courses are all recorded training tutorials. This means that you get to up your skills at a time and place that suits you. 24 hours after purchase (within regular business hours: Mon-Fri, 8-16 CEST), you can watch and re-watch the Bridging Course video as many times as you like right up until the 31st of December 2019.
There will be no exercises throughout the course, but in order to up your certification points from Umbraco 7 to 8, you have to pass the 10 question exam with at least 80% correct answers - and that also have to be done by the 31st of December 2019.
How to sign-in, get started, take the exam, move your certification points etc. is all explained in the email you’ll receive right after purchase.
What if I’ve passed an Umbraco 7 course after the 1st of October 2018?
Everyone who’s gone on one of the five Umbraco 7 courses following October 1st 2018 was promised free Umbraco 8 bridging courses. And so it shall be.
We are currently gathering the full list of attendees, so we kindly ask for your patience - you have not been forgotten!
We aim to have contacted everyone who’s entitled to these free bridging courses by the 5th of July 2019.
