Written by:

This spring we welcome a brand new Umbraco event - Umbraco Spark. Unlike the regular Umbraco Festivals, this conference has one main focus - innovation. Umbraco Gold Partner, Gibe Digital, invites Umbraco developers to this brand new conference. Who'll be there? What's it all about? Find out right here:

The inaugural Umbraco Spark Innovation Conference takes place on Friday 22nd March 2019, at the M Shed in Bristol. This conference is a must for all Umbraco developers that want to find out some of the most innovative uses of Umbraco in 2019.

The theme

In just over a month, 22nd March to be exact, the M Shed, Bristol will play host to the first ever Umbraco Spark Innovation Conference! Focusing on innovation and forward thinking, we will cover topics such as Umbraco Headless, .Net Core, Machine Learning / AI, personalisation, mobile apps, content as a service, and digital assistants. With innovative and exciting talks from some of Umbraco's biggest names, two tracks and an after-party, what more could you want on a Friday?! It’s about time you got your tickets if you haven't already.

Here’s a breakdown of the event and what’s not to be missed:

The format

The Umbraco Spark Innovation Conference will have one core track of top-class talks from some of Umbraco's biggest names including Pete Duncanson, Managing Director of Offroadcode. Track 01 will contain some of the most exciting and interesting topics you'll want to hear about, giving you ideas and tools for 2019 and beyond!

Attendees will also have the chance to submit talks for track 02 in a more informal environment. Many of us are doing exciting things with Umbraco every day and this is your opportunity to talk about it. Whether you want to share your excitement and new discoveries, get feedback on a new project or discuss the diversities of Umbraco, this is your chance. If you are interested in presenting at Umbraco Spark, we would love to hear from you and you can submit a talk here.

The speakers so far

The most integral part of the day is, of course, the speakers and you, the attendees! We want to provide a platform where you can learn about new tech and innovative uses of Umbraco providing you inspiration which you can take away and utilise. So we are very excited to share that we already have some great speakers confirmed from some of Umbraco's biggest names:

Lee Kelleher (UMCO founder, MVP & umBristol organiser)

Eight-time Umbraco MVP (from 2010 through to 2018), and developer of many Umbraco packages/projects.

Callum White (umbraCoffee & UK festival organiser)

Callum will share exactly what is involved in migrating an Umbraco V7 site over to V8 and how we can start to take full advantage of what the latest and greatest version has to offer. While walking through the migration steps we'll look closer at the fundamental differences between the 2 versions; from getting started with Variants, changes to Models Builder and the Core APIs, and the introduction of Content Apps.

Pete Duncanson, Managing Director, Offroadcode

With 20+ years of development under his belt, Pete has rightly earned the 1000 yard stare as a veteran developer.

Plus our very own; Steve Temple, Technical Director, Gibe Digital

Serious gamer and Umbraco Certified Master, and an expert in .NET, Umbraco and Microsoft technologies. Steve will be touching on ways to utilise @azure Machine Learning in Umbraco sites and how to make Umbraco sites awesome!

We certainly won’t be stopping there and we are still in communication with Umbraco and the community to secure more great speakers, which we will be able to share with you soon!

The mission

For a long time, the team at Gibe Digital, have talked about hosting an Umbraco conference in Bristol. When we look back on our work and what we have planned for the future we realised that Umbraco is core to our business and so we should start supporting it properly.

We’ve been a long term supporter of the umBristol community and with most events in the UK taking place in London, we’d like to champion more regional events. With Bristol being one of the most exciting tech clusters in the country right now we believe there is space for an Umbraco innovation conference!

We’ve booked the iconic Bristol venue (M Shed), centrally located with large glass windows overlooking Bristol’s floating harbour to keep you amused in between the day’s events.

The future

Our commitment and goal is to make sure we have a successful event, and we understand and appreciate how challenging it is to do this. We do have lots of ideas on how we would like to shape the event moving forward but first and foremost we want to make sure we are providing something innovation focused that also complements the UK festival.
