Hi!
My name is Jake Compton; I am 32 years old and live in Charlotte, NC in the US with my wife Kelly. I was originally born in Atlanta, Georgia but have lived in Charlotte for the majority of my life.
I attended school at Appalachian State University in the mountains of NC. Most of my professional career has been spent in the sales field and I am so excited to be a part of the Suits team (the Umbraco sales and partner team who, funnily enough, don't really wear suits!) at Umbraco!
My new job at Umbraco
My role here consists of establishing new relationships with clients in the US as well as growing the existing ones.
As part of my work, I will be attending trade shows and conferences to introduce people to Umbraco. I will also further educate and assist our partners on Umbraco and provide them with higher levels of service to further the relationship.
To drive success in my work, I will take the mantra of “The Friendly CMS” and apply it to everything I do. After all, we are a big family at Umbraco and want our partners to become a part of that family!
And it’s true! - everyone really does treat you like family and is very passionate about Umbraco. The culture that is represented outwardly to the public is something that is in fact resonated everyday.
An amazing two months
The past two months in my new role has been amazing so far! I have been working with current partners as well as talking with agencies who could potentially be a part of the Umbraco family in the future.
What I’ve found is that not only are our partners great to work with, but anyone who has experience with Umbraco absolutely loves it. It is always great to hear when your customers are expressing the same passion and love that is also coming from the company.

I also got the privilege to travel to the Umbraco HQ in Denmark; while the trip got cut short because of the worldwide coronavirus situation, it was a great experience and was a pleasure to work closely with such an incredible group of colleagues.
As someone from the US who has never even travelled to Europe let alone worked for a European company, it has been a completely new experience to me. I always love new experiences and my team has made it such an easy transition into the role.
Who is Jake?
Now that you know a little more about my role at Umbraco, let me tell you a little more about myself:

At Appalachian State, my field of study was International Relations with a minor in Spanish.
My original ambition was to move abroad to Spain and work for an organization handling their Public Relations on a day-to-day basis.
Once I met my wife and realized moving to Spain was no longer an option, I made a career pivot. 😉
With my love for learning and competitive nature, I soon realized that sales was a perfect fit and spent the last seven years in the field, experiencing most aspects of sales to some capacity.
What I love about sales is that you are constantly faced with new challenges and have to find ways to adapt and overcome those challenges. You never fall into the robotic pace that some people are faced with doing the same task on a loop.
Also, I love working with people so that is a definite plus!
Other than my career passions I grew up a big sports fan. I have played football most of my life and naturally living in Charlotte I am a huge Carolina Panthers fan. My wife and I enjoy going to the home Panthers games on Sunday and we take that opportunity to spend with friends and family.
I also really enjoy the outdoors. I grew up a hunter so typically I will use any reason to be out in the woods or on the lake. When I’m not working you can mostly find me spending time with my wife and our two pets.
I couldn’t be prouder to now call myself part of the Umbraco family and I can’t wait to see the great things to come.
