Professional

The Professional level is the starting point of all Umbraco certifications. Your journey begins with the Umbraco Fundamentals course, where you’ll build a strong foundation for building with Umbraco. From here, you decide how far to take your skills and certification.

Umbraco Fundamentals: Learn how to build a structured Umbraco site from scratch using best practices.

Expert

Once you’ve completed your Professional Certification, advance to the Expert level by completing the following four core courses:

Extending the Backoffice: Learn to extend the UI for custom tasks in the Umbraco backoffice.

Umbraco and MVC: Learn to apply MVC when building and customizing Umbraco sites.

Application Integration: Learn to integrate external data and services into Umbraco.

Security: Learn to secure your Umbraco site against threats and attacks.

Master

Advance to Master level by completing two additional skill-focused courses. Choose any two from the list below:

Searching and Indexing: Learn to improve search with Examine for fast, relevant results.

Cloud Developer: Learn to deploy, troubleshoot, and work in Umbraco Cloud.

Load Balancing and Azure: Learn to set up and manage load balancing for stable, scalable sites. This is the only course not available on-demand.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Professional certification exam consists of 20 questions, and the Expert and Master certification exams consist of 60 questions. The questions are based on the knowledge taught in the courses required for each exam. For instance, the Professional exam will only contain questions based on the Umbraco Fundamentals course. All exams have a 60 minute timer and have 3 attempts. If you do not pass an exam after 3 tries, you must attend the course again or purchase access to the re-exam.

Your training certification is valid for 2 years. You can take a renewal exam to retain your certification level. This needs to be done before the certification expires.

To keep your certification, you should re-certify before your current certification expires. The recertification exam targets the most recent version of Umbraco, so you should only take it if you have kept up to date with the latest developments. If not, we recommend retaking the courses in the certification path to ensure your knowledge is current.

Once you pass the recertification exam, the expiration date of your certificate will be extended to two years from the date of passing. You have three attempts to pass the recertification exam. If you fail, we recommend retaking the courses in the path where your knowledge needs improvement.
