After a fantastic edition during last year’s Codegarden, the Umbraco Package Awards are back to celebrate the great work by you, the friendliest community in the world! But what are Package Awards all about? And how can you submit your nominations? Dive right in (and better hurry - the nomination deadline is April 22nd!) 👇

What are the Package Awards?

Packages, the modules that can enhance, extend and change the way Umbraco works, are a vital part in the development of  Umbraco - and we want to recognize the best of these packages.

If you’ve been creating packages and think it’s top-class, using a new package for your project that’s blown your socks off, or have that one package that you use on every site you make, then let us know. What are you waiting for? Give those package authors a huge H5YR by filling in the form and letting us know your nomination.

New this year: nominate package contributors!

Besides nominating packages and praising their authors for creating them, we also want to recognize and appreciate community members who have contributed to making them better by supplying bug fixes, new ideas/features, and/or helping maintain them. So new to this year’s awards is the possibility of nominating package contributors and giving them a huge H5YR as well!

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for an award, a package:

  • Must function on any version of Umbraco that was released within the past 12 months (i.e. v8.14 or later)
  • Must be listed in the Our package repository
  • Can be closed source/commercial or open-source
  • Cannot be owned by Umbraco HQ
  • Any packages submitted that do not meet these criteria will not be considered. Nominations can be made by the package owners or collaborators themselves, or by any member of the community who has used the package
  • Must not have won in the same category at last year’s awards

And to be eligible for the package contributor award, the contributor:

  • Must have contributed to a package in the past 12 months
  • And their contributions are publicly visible (this means that the contributions should be visible and verifiable, e.g. you can't nominate your colleague who helped behind the scenes, as we don't have a good way to validate their efforts)

Selection panel

The winning packages will be selected by a panel of judges made up of HQ, package developers, and community members who will evaluate and score each of the packages against the categories. Judges will not be eligible to win an award. We’re currently on the lookout for judges, if you’d like to get involved please email us at packages@umbraco.com.

Remember that this year you can nominate both packages and package contributors 🔧

Announcing the winners

The winners will be revealed at the Package Awards ceremony during Codegarden. There are plenty of prizes for the lucky winners, including a unique award and, of course, some Umbraco swag 🏆

You can watch the Package Awards winners' reveal in person in Odense, Denmark, or virtually from the comfort of your office (or home office 😉) 🙌

Submission deadline

Enter your nomination no later than 12:00 CEST (midday) on the 22nd of April to give our panel enough time to review all the nominated packages and contributors. You’re allowed to enter multiple nominations for both packages and contributors. To attend the Package Awards and hear the winners announced, stay posted about Codegarden! You can learn the latest on the official Codegarden website.

Loved by developers, used by thousands around the world!

One of the biggest benefits of using Umbraco is that we have the friendliest Open Source community on this planet. A community that's incredibly pro-active, extremely talented and helpful.

If you get an idea for something you would like to build in Umbraco, chances are that someone has already built it. And if you have a question, are looking for documentation or need friendly advice, go ahead and ask on the community forums.
