uProfile - Blake Smith

Name: Blake Smith

Role/Company: Sr. Front-End Developer at DiscoverTec

Started working with Umbraco in which year? 2012

What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on the finishing touches for the new Wounded Warrior Project website that is going to be launching soon!

Favourite Umbraco moment or achievement?
I definitely think my most favorite moment was being asked to speak at CodeGarden last year. The opportunity to travel overseas for the first time and meet the community and actually speak about something I really like doing… awesome seems like an understatement. The entire event was a really incredible experience and I decided to permanently remember it with a tattoo while in Denmark!

Piece of Umbraco work you are most proud of?
I would definitely have to say that the Wounded Warrior Project Umbraco upgrade is my most favorite project I’ve worked on. Not only is it an awesome organization but the team we worth with consists of some awesome people. Designing a new solution to make their jobs easier has really been pretty exciting. I’m really looking forward to the launch!

What about Umbraco keeps you coming back for more?
I absolutely love the fact that Umbraco is so flexible. You get to start with a clean slate and completely customize a solution that best fits the client’s needs. It really allows you to offer a stellar product that actually helps make a difference and it is a nice feeling knowing you are a part of something like that.

What is on your desk at work?
A lot of Mario stuffed animals, a Princess Peach & pink Yoshi Amiibo, and my CodeGarden15 badge.

What is on the top of your bucket list?
Definitely travel more. I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida and I am very excited to get out and explore some more. I really love the scenery when I’ve been up North in the mountains and being able to go snowboarding is a lot fun! Not something you can just go do in Florida.

What book are you reading at the moment?
I’m slacking in the reading books department at the moment, but if there was another Harry Potter book in the works, I’d be reading that.

If you could be a superhero what would your power be?
I think flying would be pretty damn cool.
