The challenges
👉 Lack of control
👉 Time-consuming asset management and distribution
👉 Poor findability
When we first met the team at SPX FLOW, they had just started a global web project to build spxflow.com using Umbraco CMS. The company did not have a central DAM tool and were using their old CMS to store assets published on their website. With the upgrade to Umbraco, they identified the need for a flexible and scalable DAM solution.
Without a DAM, managing and distributing assets to different channels, partners, clients, and other tools, was time-consuming. With the old storage solution, they could not get the overview necessary to enable efficient actions like content reuse and data-driven publishing.
On top of the large quantity of product images, the teams at SPX FLOW also manage technical documentation in multiple languages for all their products and brands. With QBank, they were able to manage, publish and distribute these documents in streamlined and automatized workflows.
The integration for Umbraco CMS was the first connector added to the DAM. The Umbraco CMS tool is used for the global company website SPX FLOW.com. With this QBank integration, the web editors’ can retrieve assets approved for publishing on the global website from within the Umbraco interface. This way, they make sure that only assets available in QBank are published on the website, ensuring that the assets used are always on brand and in accordance with privacy regulations. QBank serves web editors with a wide range of imagery, using 13 different pre-determined image templates to ensure a perfect fit on the website.
Here is how it works 👇
- QBank publishes the assets in desired formats, cropping, and naming standards to the Microsoft Azure CDN. Through the connector window, QBank can be integrated into TinyMCE or a block object in Umbraco.
- Once the user chooses an asset, the connector will return all possible formats available on the CDN.
- The image is placed on the page in Umbraco and points to the CDN.
- Once a page is published, Umbraco will report the usage back to QBank. The link to the page using the image, the format, and which editor that used the image. When an image is updated in QBank with a new version or cropping, the file on the CDN will be updated, resulting in all pages using this image being updated as well.

The SPX FLOW QBank set-up has grown from one CMS integration with Umbraco to an advanced solution with streamlined workflows and integrations to several business-critical tools and channels.

Take a look at the great results ✨
Consistency
With one single source of truth, SPX FLOW are in full control of what is published and where. That way, they can be consistent in their communication and provide a content-driven customer experience.. Publishing the latest version of a product images on their website, in their e-Commerce tool, and to all their partner portals. With an advanced version management, they will not risk publishing the wrong image or logotype.
Â
Platform ecosystem
The decision to invest in an integrated platform solution has resulted in a future-proofed ecosystem. Integrating business critical tools not only saves SPX FLOW time but also enables data sharing between systems. Data sharing is key in a data-driven organization.
Now they can optimize efforts by analyzing the performance of
specific assets. Data-sharing also means retrieving metadata, product identifications, and naming conventions – always being on track and in control.
Â
Increased SEO Friendliness
Publishing images on a website calls for Alt texts which SPX FLOW can now manage in QBank. When an image is published to the Umbraco Connector, the Alt text is included. The web team doesn’t have to manually add it to images before publishing, it is consistent, and most importantly, it will not be forgotten.
Â
The Media Hub
SPX FLOW has a large number of resellers and partners. To share product images, product information, and technical documentation, they added a Media Portal called the Media Hub to their QBank set-up. The Media Hub is a website where assets can be downloaded. This way, they can ensure access to accurate and up-to-date assets at all times. By adding pre-determined templates, the user can choose in what format to download assets, with options like high or low-resolution images, various formats, etc.
Â
Platform setup
Using QBank as a platform instead of an off-the-shelf product has given SPX FLOW a DAM tool that has been successfully integrated with their existing workflows, processes, and tools. This flexibility of QBank has resulted in easier adaption amongst the teams working with and using these assets in their day-to-day work and tasks. This approach has made QBank a tool for the entire company and not only the Marketing and Communications team.
Â
Integrations to business-critical tools
One of QBank’s key strengths is the ability to grow and scale from being a tool for digital assets to a central hub in an ecosystem of best-of-breed vendors.Â
