Extended Long-Term Support for Umbraco 13

Umbraco 13 will reach End-of-Life (EOL) on December 14, 2026. After this date, security patches and updates are no longer provided. Keep your Umbraco projects secure and compliant past the EOL date with XLTS for Umbraco 13

In short, if you have a project running Umbraco version 13 that you’re not ready or able to migrate or upgrade to a supported version before the December 14 2026, we highly recommend securing your site with the XLTS option.

When a software version reaches its EOL, it means that it will no longer receive updates or support from Umbraco HQ.

For Umbraco 13, this includes critical security patches and technical support. Continuing to use Umbraco 13 after EOL can expose you to security vulnerabilities and compliance issues.

While your projects will technically continue to function after End-of-Life (EOL), we strongly advise against using Umbraco 13 after December 14, 2026. Continuing running projects on this version past this date may lead to unresolvable issues on your end.

To gain more time for planning a necessary upgrade or a complete project migration, you can opt for Extended Long-Term Support (XLTS). XLTS extends the project's support phase for an agreed-upon duration, guaranteeing ongoing access to crucial security patches and compliance support.

Continuing to use software past its End-of-Life (EOL) date poses several significant risks:

  • Security Exposure: Without security updates, your site may be exposed to new vulnerabilities and exploits.

  • Operational Instability: EOL software can become increasingly unstable and incompatible with other systems and technologies, leading to potential downtime and operational disruptions.

  • Compliance Risks: Many industries have strict compliance requirements. Using unsupported software can lead to non-compliance.

  • Lack of Support: If issues arise, you will no longer have access to official support, making it difficult to resolve problems efficiently.

We always recommend being on a supported version of Umbraco. This will ensure you have access to all the latest security updates as well as the latest features and performance improvements.

If you’re running projects on Umbraco 13, we recommend 3 options:

  • Upgrade to a Supported Version: Do an upgrade to Umbraco version 17 LTS or above to ensure you have access to the newest features, performance improvements, and security enhancements.

  • Rebuild on a Supported Version: Start fresh on Umbraco version 17 or above. This will ensure all the latest updates and allow you to rethink/build your entire setup.

  • Get Umbraco 13 XLTS: Access to security patches beyond the official EOL date, giving you more time to plan and execute your upgrade or rebuild. You can choose from a 6, 12, or 24 months XLTS coverage.
