Who convinced you to go to Codegarden 18?

Niels visited our office as part of his trip to Australia and really convinced me I had to experience Codegarden for myself. Then I went to the Umbraco Down Under Festival and it sealed the deal that I needed more Umbraco goodness in my life.

Before arriving - what were you most looking forward to?

As I was travelling from Australia, I was looking forward to visiting Denmark for the first time and experiencing Umbraco in all its glory. Over the years I’d heard alot about how epic Codegarden was and had only experienced it through 3rd party sources. This trip was a big deal for me and I wanted to make the most of it.

Before arriving - what were your biggest concerns/worry about you going to CG18?

I was worried that I’d arrive and no one would be expecting me and I’d get turned away from the conference after travelling for 24+ hours. I’m also not a developer, so I was anxious I’d be alone in a corner by myself while all the developers talked technical.

Did you gain something unexpected from participation in CG18?

If it weren’t for CG18, I’d never of visited Denmark and learnt so much about a similar, yet different culture. I came back to Australia with a new perspective on work/life balance and a renewed energy to work on my company.

What are your top 3 favourite take-aways from Codegarden 2018?

  1. Umbraco welcomes everyone and the Umbraco community is phenomenal

  2. Don’t just take in the conference, be open to everything around you in Denmark
  3. Sock puppets, magic tricks and bingo can be part of a tech conference too

What are your top 3 recommendations for CG19 first timers?

  1. Don’t be too cool for school, put yourself out there and try everything

  2. Wear comfortable footwear and clothes

  3. Pace yourself, if you go all out on the opening night, you won’t have much left for Bingo night

Will we see you for CG19?

My heart says yes!

Anything else you’d like to add?

I really enjoyed screen printing my own shirt, such a great idea!
