Are you dedicating time or sharing knowledge to help foster Umbraco and the Umbraco community? Maybe you know someone who really deserves a H5YR out of the ordinary? Then this is for you; you can now apply or nominate others for an official 2020 Umbraco MVP Award! Help us shine a light on the real MVPs 🎉 The application opens today and will close on the 10th of March.

It’s that time of the year again!

The time for Umbraco HQ to choose the year’s Most Valuable People of the Umbraco community, show them recognition and appreciation, invite them to the stage on the opening keynote of Codegarden, and hand them the one-of-a-kind custom-made statuette… Only we’re doing it differently this time!

This year, the selection of the 2020 Umbraco MVPs will be based on nominations submitted by the community. Yes, we want to hear from you to help us recognize the exceptional work and involvement of community members who have given their time to grow the Umbraco community and foster its core values of Trust, Respect, Openness, Hunger, and Friendliness. This can be you or someone you know who’s done fantastic work and contributions to Umbraco.

From the 25th of February to the 10th of March you will be able to share your story and the stories of other community members who have been active contributors to their favorite CMS.

You/They have to be in it to win it, so please don’t hold back!

Umbraco MVPs with their award

So how would that work?

Simple… well not quite.

It does, after all, take a lot of hard work to get the MVP title, so it will certainly take some time to highlight all that work. If you are thinking about throwing your hat in the ring or nominating someone, our advice is Mise en place. Yes, you’ve read it right 😉 Make sure to get all your ingredients ready or in this case, all the information about the contributions, well in advance before you submit your nomination.

To be able to make a fair selection between all the nominees, we will need to have a clear understanding of the impact of their contributions and what makes them stand out. A clear and complete application will ensure we make the right and fair choice.

Who should submit?

Anyone in the Umbraco community with enough knowledge of the contributions of those they would like to see with the MVP badge. And anyone who has been working hard to support other Umbracians and share their love for the friendly CMS.

This means that the process is open to nominations AND self-nominations; we encourage you to be your own best advocate. After all, you are the one with the clearest idea of the amount of work put into contributing to your favorite CMS and paying it forward.

And please don’t be humble - we give you full permission to brag about your awesome work and achievements!

What about the renewals?

The same goes for the renewals.

The nomination form includes two sections: New MVPs and Renewed MVPs.

The Renewed MVPs section displays a dropdown list with the names of the current MVPs to choose from. So before submitting a new nomination, we recommend you have a look at the list of the current MVPs. If your nominee’s name is there, you will need to choose the Renewed MVPs section of the form.

Umbraco HQ will be considering all current MVPs (14 MVPs(2019) and 32 Renewed MVPs) as nominees for the renewal.

Where to submit, you ask?

Once you have collected and prepared all information on the nominee’s contributions, you can fill out a form that includes questions about the nominees’ contributions in the last 12months leading up to Codegarden 2020. Make sure to get your application in by the 10th of March.

What about the selection process?

The selection of the final list of new and renewed MVPs for this year will be done by Umbraco HQ.

But before that, and as part of the selection process, the existing MVPs(2019 MVPs + Renewed) will be given access to the applications to conduct the first-round review, in order to weigh in based on their experience interacting with the nominees in different channels and events. We will make sure that this process is GDPR-compliant and the review will not include contact information, e.g. email address.

And to avoid any conflict of interest, this first-round review by the current MVPs will not cover the renewals.

What is the timeline?

  • 25 February 2020: Application opens 🎉
  • 10 March 2020: Application closes (at 4 pm CET)
  • 26 March 2020: Notification emails will be sent to the selected MVPs
  • 27 May 2020: Official announcement of the 2020 MVPs at Codegarden during the opening keynote

What now?

The applications are open for 2 weeks so hurry and share your story and the stories of other community members who have been making a difference in the Umbraco world. We can’t wait to read them!
