Working at Umbraco HQ

What's our company culture like? 🤔

Let's clear things up: Umbraco A/S is the company behind Umbraco CMS. When we say "working at Umbraco HQ," we mean working for the company behind the CMS - and nowadays, this means you can work at headquarters in Odense, Denmark, our US office in Charlotte, North Carolina, the NL office in Utrecht, or you can work remotely from your country of residence.

If you've been looking at our job openings, you've probably also been thinking, "What's it actually like to work at Umbraco HQ? 🤔"

Well, enjoying a job is much more than exciting tasks, it's about the whole picture: the tasks, the colleagues, the atmosphere, and the attitude. We're very aware of this because we want our employees to love working here!

An International Workplace

Our HQ is based in Odense, Denmark, but what we do reaches far and wide, and as globally as possible. One moment you’ll be talking to someone in the building around the corner, the next to someone from the UK, and the next, to someone from India, and the next… you get it 😉 This makes us an international company with the need for a broad outlook, but Umbraco HQ itself is also very international.

We have more than25different nationalities at Umbraco and which definitely makes for a unique work environment where there’s room for different ideas, insights, and approaches. And what's more, it’s also super fun.

Diversity & Inclusion

At Umbraco A/S, we strongly value diversity in recruitment, search and selection.

We believe that a commitment to diversity gives us access to the most talented potential employees, and that fostering an inclusive culture brings different competencies and perspectives that develop Umbraco positively as an organization.

We aspire to steadily improve both diversity & inclusion at Umbraco. Our three main focus areas are diversity of gender, national origin, and age.

Gender

Right now, we are working to raise the percentage of women employees, particularly those with an IT background, above the national average (roughly 30%).

National Origin

Umbraco is based in Denmark, but we aim to ensure international candidates have the same employment possibilities as national candidates. We currently have ~25 different nationalities among our staff and it's growing!

Age

We're working to have a balanced age distribution at Umbraco at any given time.

We also aspire to be an inclusive workplace. By inclusive, we mean embracing our diverse staff and ensuring that everyone feels:

  • welcome, valued and heard,
  • included in the discussions and decisions made,
  • that the team clearly sees their value, and
  • that their input matters.

Overall, Umbraco wants all groups of employees to be able to pursue their careers without meeting cultural, geographical or organizational barriers.

Extra Perks

Fun Squad, Umbracola, and The Umbraco Unicorns 🦄

The social part of Umbraco HQ is very important to us. We arrange regular “Fun Squad” events where everyone from the company is invited - we’ve tried brewing our own beer, been bridge-walking and even solved a mysterious murder!

We mingle daily during lunch, which consists of tasty brain food from various suppliers. On Fridays, we count the minutes until beer o’clock when we gather for a casual beer, Umbracola, or glass of chilled chardonnay at the Friday Bar.

Last but not least, we like to keep healthy by keeping active. A group of us form a weekly football game as part of the famous “Umbraco Unicorns” and when we get the chance, we like to flash our custom-made Umbraco running t-shirts. Lately, a bunch of us have taken up Padel Tennis and joined our small cycling team… but don’t worry - we also eat plenty of cake! 🍰

It’s even company policy to bring back chocolates for your colleagues if you go on a business trip abroad 😉

Loved by developers, used by thousands around the world!

One of the biggest benefits of using Umbraco is that we have the friendliest Open Source community on this planet. A community that's incredibly pro-active, extremely talented and helpful.

If you get an idea for something you would like to build in Umbraco, chances are that someone has already built it. And if you have a question, are looking for documentation or need friendly advice, go ahead and ask on the community forums.
