Today we can happily announce that Umbraco has acquired Outfield Digital and, along with it, Vendr, the well-known commerce solution, and Konstrukt, the Backoffice UI builder, both built and maintained by Outfield Digital - owned and managed by Matt and Lucy Brailsford.

Matt is a long-time Umbraco MVP and known by many as one of the most active package developers throughout the history of Umbraco. Lucy, a 2 x MVP herself,  is also well known in the Umbraco community including, but not limited to, her role in making CODECABIN a success.

This is the second acquisition Umbraco has done in the last 12 months.

“We believe that in order for Umbraco to stay relevant we need to look beyond just content. We want to be able to offer a powerful commerce offering that is well-integrated with Umbraco and that can be added to Umbraco projects where needed. And we believe Vendr to be just that.”

Kim Sneum Madsen - CEO at Umbraco

Both Matt and Lucy Brailsford will be joining Umbraco, Matt to continue maintaining and developing Vendr, and Lucy will be joining the Community Happiness Team working with Developer Relations.

“I'm so excited to be starting my new role as Commerce Technical Team Lead at Umbraco HQ. I'll get to continue developing the product I've been working so hard on for the last 3 years, but now with additional assistance from the DXP team, as well as customer support from the support warriors and sales from the suits. Together, I'm confident that we can take commerce in Umbraco to a whole new level.”

Matt Brailsford

“I’m super excited for the future of Vendr in the hands of Umbraco, taking the product we have nurtured and giving it the opportunity to grow and realise its full potential. I’m equally looking forward to my new opportunity to join the Community Happiness Team, learning new skills and having the chance to connect with the wonderful Umbraco Community even more.”

Lucy Brailsford

Commerce is crucial when catering to clients that want to build modern digital experiences. With this acquisition, Umbraco will be able to offer customers a simple way to connect a great commerce engine seamlessly into their Umbraco solutions.

This lines up well with the Umbraco mission statement, stating that we want to make it simpler to build digital experiences.

We are working on how to integrate Vendr and Konstrukt into our commercial offering and expect to make Vendr available as an Umbraco product sometime later in 2023. More information will follow on this at a later stage.

Existing Vendr and Konstrukt clients continue on existing terms and prices until the end of 2023. We will contact clients directly about any changes in due time.

In the meantime, if you want to buy a Vendr or Konstrukt license, please reach out to us at suits@umbraco.com.

In case you are interested in CODECABIN, the next event is planned for September 2023, and you can read more and apply to join here. Matt and Lucy will still be co-organising and co-hosting it with other community members, Lee Kelleher, Lotte Pitcher, and Karl Tynan.

Loved by developers, used by thousands around the world!

One of the biggest benefits of using Umbraco is that we have the friendliest Open Source community on this planet. A community that's incredibly pro-active, extremely talented and helpful.

If you get an idea for something you would like to build in Umbraco, chances are that someone has already built it. And if you have a question, are looking for documentation or need friendly advice, go ahead and ask on the community forums.
