Umbraco Cloud continues to evolve, and if the first few months of 2025 are any indication, there’s plenty more in store. From regional hosting options to smoother workflows and scalable user access, the platform keeps getting stronger, more versatile, and even better suited for modern digital projects.

This April, three long-awaited features are ready to use or just around the corner. All shaped by feedback from agencies, partners, and enterprise teams already building on Umbraco Cloud.

Expansion: Canadian Hosting Region

We’re excited to publicly announce the expansion of hosting options on Umbraco Cloud: You can now host Umbraco Cloud projects in Microsoft Azure’s Central Canada region.

Soft-launched on April 7, this new option is designed for organizations that need to keep data within Canadian borders or want to reduce latency for users in North America.

Whether you're building for government, healthcare, education, or other high-compliance sectors, the new region gives you a compliant, high-performance way to meet data residency requirements and provide a faster experience for end users.

The Canadian region is now available when starting new Cloud projects. Just select it during setup. It joins the existing regional options in West Europe, US, UK, and Australia, giving you even more choice for how and where to deliver your Umbraco solutions.

More Control: Flexible Environments Now Available

More control over how your Cloud projects and features are structured and deployed. You’re no longer limited to a fixed linear deployment setup (Development -> Staging -> Live). Instead, you can adjust the workflow to your actual development and delivery process and needs.

You’re no longer limited to a fixed linear deployment setup (Development -> Staging -> Live). Instead, you can adjust the workflow to your actual development and delivery process and needs. Create dedicated environments for client approvals, feature development, QA, or hotfixes. Rename them to suit your teams and remove them when no longer needed; All from within the Umbraco Cloud Portal.

Whether you're working on complex enterprise builds or fast-moving campaigns, this feature brings clarity, control, and adaptability to your development lifecycle.

The new way of handling environments is already live in the Umbraco Cloud Portal, still in beta, but expected to be fully released within the next week or so.

Easy, Safe Access Management with External Login Providers

Managing access to Cloud projects is now easier, faster, and more secure. With External Login Providers, you can connect your Umbraco Cloud projects to trusted identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Okta, Google, Auth0, and others, enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) for backoffice users.

This means you can onboard new team members faster, manage access centrally, and reduce security risks, all without the overhead of creating and maintaining individual user accounts. Authentication flows align directly with your organization’s existing security policies, ensuring that your Cloud projects stay protected and compliant without slowing down your team.

Setting up External Login Providers is quick and flexible, giving larger teams and enterprise environments the control they need to scale confidently.

Coming soon: External Login Providers for the Portal

And there’s even more on the way: soon, we’ll expand this functionality with Custom Login Providers for the Umbraco Cloud Portal itself, giving you full control over how your teams access and manage Umbraco Cloud projects. Stay tuned!

Keeping the Pace

The first few months of 2025 have reinforced what Umbraco Cloud is all about: being the best place to work with Umbraco CMS through steady improvements, practical innovation, and a clear focus on giving digital teams more control, more security, and more performance.
