What’s Next for Umbraco

We're Just Getting Started...

It’s been a little over a year since we introduced the guiding lighthouses for Umbraco’s product direction - and wow, a lot has happened since then. These lighthouses continue to shape everything we do, focusing on both the developer and the marketer experience. We strive to make things simpler, smarter, and more scalable, without ever compromising on the flexibility that makes Umbraco so powerful. Let’s take a look at where we are, and where we’re heading next.

🤖 AI: From Hype to Help

At Codegarden, we unveiled the Umbraco MCP server (Model Context Protocol) and the stable version is just around the corner. It’s already available on npm and ready for experimentation. But this is just the foundation.

We’re actively working on MCP integration across our product suite, with the goal of making it easy to plug into any Umbraco setup and compatible with your favorite packages. Our platform strategy stands firm: predictable, secure, stable, and scalable. While the AI landscape continues to mature, our focus in CMS is on extendability fostering innovation within the community. This is why the Umbraco Marketplace matters more than ever.

We’re also exploring truly transformative possibilities: imagine AI-assistance for your  major upgrades or migrations.

🔗 Orchestration: Solving Composable Complexity

Enterprises are drowning in complexity. Costly data sources, fragile custom integrations, and inflexible vendor lock-in. Sound familiar?

That’s why we introduced Umbraco Compose at Codegarden. It’s an upcoming SaaS product that orchestrates all of your data. The response from the community was clear: this is a real pain point. We’re excited to be tackling it with you. Umbraco Compose is our answer to orchestrating digital experiences in a composable (without the MACHlash) and cost-effective way.

We have big ideas for the feature roadmap and we want to build it with you. Join the private beta and help us shape the future of digital orchestration.

🔍 Search: Smarter, Everywhere

Search is undergoing a long-overdue transformation within the CMS thanks to our new search abstraction layer. But that’s just the beginning.

We envision search as a first-class citizen across all of your data, not just what lives in the CMS. Whether it’s content in Umbraco Compose or external systems, we want to make search fast, unified, and deeply customizable.

The first step: webhooks and third-party integrations. From there, we’ll continue expanding. This is a space where even small changes can make a huge difference for our users.

🎯 Personalization: Engage and Beyond

With the acquisition and rebrand of Umbraco Engage, we now offer a strong, easy-to-use solution for personalizing Umbraco-powered experiences.

But we’re not stopping there. We have rebuilt the backoffice experience. It is launching soon, fully ready before the next LTS release and our roadmap for Umbraco Engage is strong and growing.

We’re also exploring new frontiers. What if personalization wasn’t tied to CMS-rendered content? What if Umbraco Compose orchestrated dynamic experiences at runtime, on the edge? Could we control experiments from the CMS, even for content it doesn’t own? These are the types of questions we’re investigating and they’re redefining what personalization means.

🧭 The Bigger Picture

What excites us most is what happens at the intersection of the lighthouses.

Think AI-enhanced search, or personalization that adapts based on orchestrated signals from multiple sources. Each product area reinforces the others. It’s a future shaped by intelligent connections, not isolated tools.
