Background
The Danish Agriculture & Food Council is a major interest organisation serving the Danish agriculture and food sectors, with a wide range of audiences and communication needs. The organisation had grown an extensive collection of individual Sitecore-based websites, each with its own editors and workflows, making content management fragmented and difficult to oversee. With little visual and editorial consistency across sites, it was hard to maintain brand standards or control who had access to what content. The Danish Agriculture & Food Council needed a unified digital and visual platform that could support many sites while giving local editors the freedom to produce relevant content for their specific audience.
Solution
In partnership with Illumi, the Danish Agriculture & Food Council implemented a flexible Umbraco CMS platform that brings more than 30 individual websites into one structured ecosystem. The project began with the main public site to establish a solid foundation before scaling out to the smaller sites, all built with shared templates to ensure consistent branding and governance. Editors now have clear roles that define what individual users can edit and publish, without limiting their creative freedom. Umbraco’s intuitive editing experience means even subject experts with no technical background can confidently create and rearrange content.
Impact
The new platform gives the Danish Agriculture & Food Council full visibility and control over its entire web landscape. By standardising templates and workflows, the organisation has improved quality and consistency across diverse sites while reducing editorial complexity. Some of the websites are very small with only a few pages and simple functionality. Many of these sites are organized in so-called multisite solutions. For example, microsites that target the same target group are located in the same installation – the same multisite. This limits the costs of the individual websites and makes maintenance much easier.
Creating new microsites is quick and efficient – requiring just a couple of development hours before editors can take over – which supports ongoing innovation without bottlenecks. The intuitive Umbraco CMS has also empowered non-technical editors to publish and manage content with ease, enhancing agility and reducing reliance on external support.

“We had some really strong conversations about how to tackle the project and break it into manageable parts. Everything was built from scratch, and from design through to implementation, launch and ongoing operation, Illumi made it all happen.”
