The IASC needed a website that could communicate critical, sensitive information with clarity, speed, and accessibility. We delivered a user-focused platform that significantly improved engagement (+391% time on site) and reach (+42% users in 30 days), earning Gold at the Vega Digital Awards.

Background

The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC) needed a website that could support its three-year strategic plan focused on preventing modern slavery, protecting victims, and enabling the prosecution of offenders.

Their existing digital presence lacked the clarity and accessibility required for such a critical mission. Information wasn’t always easy to find, user journeys weren’t optimised for urgency, and the experience didn’t fully support the needs of vulnerable users.

The objective was to create a platform that prioritises accessibility, speed, and simplicity, while communicating complex, high-stakes information effectively. This meant it needed to be intuitive with clear navigation, user-friendly, and with rapid access to key content, alongside essential features such as a quick exit function.

Solution

We created a clean, intuitive platform designed to make critical information easy to find and act on. The layout prioritises clarity and speed, ensuring users can navigate quickly, access key resources, and move through the site without friction.

Visually, we built on the IASC’s core teal brand, introducing a complementary palette to add warmth and clarity without overwhelming the subject matter. Imagery was a key challenge given the sensitivity of the content, so we developed a bespoke illustration style to bring the site to life in a way that feels engaging, appropriate, and respectful.

The platform was built on Umbraco CMS, enabling the team to easily publish reports, share updates, and manage ongoing content. Hosted on Umbraco Cloud, it provides the scalability, security, and sustainability needed to support long-term growth.

This resulted in a website that balances usability, accessibility, and sensitivity, delivering information clearly, and when it matters most.

Impact

The new platform has significantly improved how users access and engage with critical information. Within the first 30 days, users increased by +42%, reflecting stronger visibility and easier access to key content.

Engagement saw an even greater shift, with time spent per user rising by +391%, indicating that visitors are not only finding the information they need, but spending longer exploring it in a more considered way.

The impact was also recognised externally, with the project awarded Gold at the Vega Digital Awards – a reflection of both the quality of execution and the importance of the work.

“Embrace have been great to work from the very start of the redesign of our website. Their expert and friendly team worked seamlessly to understand our needs and goals from the outset, and provided us innovative design ideas and suggestions. They have built us an incredible website.”
