Meet the Friendly and Green Community Sustainability Team of 2025/2026

Martin Wülser
Written by Martin Wülser

A new chapter begins as passionate Umbracians come together to drive greener digital solutions. Discover how returning members and new voices are joining forces to make sustainability a core part of the Umbraco ecosystem, from smarter code to meaningful community impact.

A Quick Look in the Rear‑View Mirror

Two years ago the very first Community Sustainability Team set out to prove that a handful of passionate people could nudge a whole ecosystem toward lower‑carbon emitting, people-friendly web solutions. And wow, did they deliver! From informative articles, webinars, videos and an Umbraco sustainability package to conference talks, and documenting sustainability best practices, their work reached far beyond the CMS itself.

None of that would have happened without every single member rolling up their sleeves, so before we unveil the new line‑up, let’s give a massive #H5YR to the teammates who are handing over the torch:

  • Andy Eva-Dale
  • Frederik Klerens
  • Jeffrey Schoemaker
  • Kirstie Buchanan
  • Lasse Fredslund

Your enthusiasm and ideas not only laid the foundation we’re now building on, but set the bar very high for what we hope we can deliver this time around.

Thank you! 🌟

Say Hello to Our Four New Sustainability Champions

Please give a warm welcome to and learn a bit more about their motivation for joining and their background:

Peter Solow, Knowit Experience

I applied to be part of the Umbraco Sustainability Team because I see a real opportunity for Umbraco CMS to drive positive change in the digital space. As a platform trusted by so many, Umbraco can actively support its users in making more sustainable choices when building and maintaining their digital presence. By gently guiding editors towards best practices and integrating sustainability into everyday workflows, we can help make environmentally responsible digital projects the norm. I’m excited about the chance to help shape these efforts and ensure that sustainability becomes a natural part of working with Umbraco.

Helen Chaplin, Cantarus

I’ve always been passionate about the environment and sustainability. When I saw this opportunity, I thought it was perfect for combining my passion for sustainability with my desire to create positive environmental change within the digital world that we all live in. I am looking forward to learning from others, sharing ideas, and being part of a team where everyone is focused on a common goal.

Imran Haider, Cogworks

The lack of sustainable practices in the online world is a serious issue, so I decided to consider joining this team because I wanted to be part of a collective that’s helping to improve the state of current sustainability practices in a meaningful way, and also could help me improve on my own knowledge of these issues.

Dennis Adolfi, Knowit Experience

Besides my longstanding passion for Umbraco, I am an advocate for sustainable technology. Having the opportunity to combine these two passions will be an incredible honor and responsibility. Over the past few years, I have promoted technical sustainability through various channels, including stage talks, webinars, podcasts, blog posts, and university lectures on Sustainable Tech. I hope to leverage this experience and knowledge to guide Umbraco's development in a continually positive direction.

Returning for Another Tour of Duty

Five familiar faces are staying on to keep the momentum high and support us newcomers as we step into this exciting new chapter.

Amy Czuba, Nexer Digital

Sustainability, especially digital sustainability, is a passion of mine. I've been working with Umbraco, and Umbraco developers for 7 years now, and have seen the impactful difference that .NET Core can make to our client's sustainability goals.

Neil Clark, MSQ

The reason I want to continue on the team is because I can see how seriously Umbraco are acting on their emissions and the impact they're trying to have on the broader digital industry. I would love to continue to be a part of that!

James Hobbs, aer studios

I've been part of the team since it started and I've enjoyed working with everyone - I've learnt a lot from my fellow team members! I think I can continue to help to raise awareness and achieve our goals.

Thomas Morris, RAC

I decided to put myself forward for this team after providing a talk on a sustainable approach to the web at Umbraco Spark, realising that the knowledge shared in that session can be taken to a much bigger audience and alongside the support of Umbraco we can make a considerable impact. The added bonus is that I get to work with HQ and other community members, learning from them and helping to contribute improvements for everyone.

Rick Butterfield, Wattle

I have been part of the team since its inception in May 2023 and knew I wanted to continue being part of it. It's been great working with both community members and Umbraco HQers over this time with a common goal of making Umbraco the most sustainable it can be! I'm still so excited about the difference we're continuing to make in making the web a more sustainable place.

And From Umbraco HQ

We are also replacing the HQ staff in order to refresh the team and bring in new ideas and skills. From HQ we are three members joining:

Karita Kostiainen

Mikulas Tomanka

Martin Wülser

Together we now span 5 nationalities and multiple disciplines, enabling us to tackle sustainability in and around the world of Umbraco from all angles.

One of the things on the agenda the team is to become even better at spreading the knowledge that we gather with the hopes of inspiring others to take action. Our team and Umbraco HQ can do a bit, an agency creating multiple sites per year can do more – but a whole community can move the needle for the entire web.
