New hire at Umbraco HQ: Simon Fugl

Welcome, Simon! 👋

Written by: Simon Fugl

Say hi to our newest HQ member: Simon! When he was little he wanted to be an astronaut 🧑‍🚀 Now he's using his support superpowers daily as he recently joined our SWAT team 🦸 But who is Simon really? He's here today to tell you a bit about himself and what brought him to Umbraco HQ:

It's Superman... It's a Bird... It's Simon “Bird”!

Hey there, my name is Simon Fugl, even though I can’t fly I’m really tall so I don’t have to 😊 I just turned 24 this October together with my twin sister. Recently I started studying Software Technology at the University of Southern Denmark and it’s, without a doubt, perfect for me. I grew up in the countryside in a small town called Nårup, playing around in the same streets as Dirch Passer did, as his mom and grandparents lived there.

I started as a student helper at Umbraco in November 2020 joining SWAT, where I daily get to use my support superpowers, doing my best to extinguish a downtime or rescue a developer. However, the table might turn where I get to be the developer that needs to be rescued, as I wish to have a future in the Development Team.

Where did it all start?

I have always been that nerd, not that’s a negative thing. When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, an astronaut was the answer. That dream changed when my family got our first computer. Even though we didn’t have any internet at that time, I was really amazed by how it could do all kinds of magic things and I fell in love with computer games. When I turned 13 and got my own laptop, I couldn’t help but tinker with it and help others. That’s when it all slowly began. I discovered it’s something I have a natural flair for and have helped family and friends with designing websites, building computers and solving all kinds of IT-related challenges ever since.

In 2019 I finally got to meet my YouTube idol with over 200.000 Subscribers! (Twin sister photobombing in the background). He inspired me to entertain and inspire other people myself, which is why you often can find me on the streaming platform Twitch. I play popular video games with my mostly Danish viewers, doing some coding on some projects. Maybe I will even stream Umbraco someday, who knows? 😉

On another note, not so IT-related, I have been playing table tennis for over a decade and you can see what that has brought me. I have really enjoyed so many years in the same club and hopefully looking forward to many more. I have heard there is one of my colleagues who also has played table tennis for a decade and is a professional. Finally a worthy opponent - our match will be legendary!

Now you have a bit of an insight into who I am and what I like to do.  All there’s left to do now is to hope for the best, and say that I look very much forward to getting even further into the world of IT, Umbraco and software development! 🎉
