The challenge
AIK Fotboll is Sweden’s strongest sports brand, backed by a deeply engaged supporter base. However, their existing website struggled to handle high traffic spikes, offered fragmented user journeys, and lacked an intuitive mobile experience for content editors.
The project faced three key challenges:
Handling extreme traffic peaks: Managing massive spikes during matchdays and high-demand ticket drops without compromising stability.
Serving diverse audiences: Catering seamlessly to dedicated supporters, casual matchgoers, corporate partners, and merchandise shoppers.
Equal representation: Giving the women’s and men’s teams equal visual weight and visibility across navigation, schedules, and stories.
The solution
Delorean built a scalable Headless Umbraco CMS solution in close agile collaboration with AIK, preparing the club for future API, CRM, and e-commerce integrations.
The visual design was crafted to recreate the excitement of the stadium using bold visuals and intuitive navigation. Delorean streamlined the ticket and season pass buying flows, cutting friction on both mobile and desktop while linking directly to the AIK Shop, the AIK+ streaming service, and partner portals.
Behind the scenes, the Headless architecture completely decouples the front end from the back end. This gives the editorial team a fast, mobile-friendly Umbraco backoffice to update match reports on the go, while guaranteeing system stability during critical ticket releases.
