Akademikernas a-kassa is Sweden's largest unemployment insurance fund, with over 800,000 members. They have high ambitions regarding digital development and user experience. We were commissioned to develop a new website focused on improving the user experience, simplifying editorial work, and creating a platform built for future needs.

The website has been nominated for the Publishing Award 2026 (Publishingpriset 2026) in the category Best Website for B2C Companies and Organizations.

Background

Akademikernas a-kassa wanted to modernize its digital presence and create a website that more clearly meets members' needs and expectations. The goal was to create a modern, easy-to-navigate, and accessible website with a clearer structure, a better mobile experience, and more efficient content management, while ensuring the solution would be scalable and flexible for future development.

Solution

The project began with a feasibility study and analysis to understand members' needs and how the existing website was being used. The work included user interviews, testing, surveys, workshops, and analysis of data from Google Analytics and Hotjar. This provided insights into navigation, search behavior, information structure, mobile usage, and accessibility — laying the foundation for the continued work.

Based on these insights, we further developed the graphic identity and created a new digital expression adapted for modern interfaces and mobile-first design. The website was built in Umbraco in accordance with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, with a focus on accessibility, performance, and SEO. The solution includes a flexible block system, simplified publishing, and integrations with external systems and "My Pages" (Mina sidor), streamlining work and improving the experience for members.

Impact

The result was a modern, fast, and accessible website with a clearer structure, an improved user experience, and more efficient editorial workflows. The platform is built to be further developed over time and to support Akademikernas a-kassa's ambition to stay at the forefront of digital innovation in its industry.

The website was initially built in Umbraco 13 but has since been migrated to Umbraco 17.

The work has been recognized within the industry — the website has been nominated for the Publishing Award 2026 (Publishingpriset) in the category Best Website for B2C Companies and Organizations, confirming the technical, editorial, and user-friendly quality of the solution.

"Truly enjoyable! Collaborating with Camelonta is easy, efficient, and above all fun. Rarely has a project run this smoothly."
