Spinbox delivered a phased digital transformation for Citrus Training, replacing outdated legacy systems with an Umbraco-powered website and integrated back-office platform. The result was improved platform stability, reliable two-way data synchronisation, increased online bookings and ecommerce activity, and reduced internal admin workload.

Background

Citrus were undergoing a digital transformation aimed at designing and developing a bespoke application that would allow the organisation to manage training courses, candidates, and clients across a range of courses.

The legacy system operated from an Access database system, which had a connected website operating the external digital presence. Both systems were obsolete and causing growth restrictions and operational inefficiencies. With the Access Database system under stress, the system risked critical failure and significant business interruption.

Citrus worked tirelessly to transform their business process in parallel to Spinbox defining agile based requirements to find a solution to unlock their potential.

Solution

At Spinbox, our mission has always been to empower organisations with technology solutions that unlock new avenues for growth and development. Working closely with Citrus, we embarked on a journey to engineer a digital solution that not only meets their business needs but provides an excellent user experience and sets new standards within the industry.

Spinbox worked closely with Citrus to re-develop the external website for Citrus, allowing for improved user experience, increased traffic and value adding content. The primary focus was to increase online bookings and data collection. Alongside a new front end, a new back-office system was also developed to handle all course data.

A micro-services application was designed, allowing for future enterprise growth, powered on Azure, integrated with legacy systems over API connections and Azure Service Bus. Umbraco CMS took the heavy lifting of content management and a new integrated back office application was born to service the team at Citrus.

Impact

From the moment users land on the site, they are greeted with a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate interface that invites exploration. The course search and filtering functionality enable users to quickly find relevant training opportunities based on factors such as industry, location, and area of interest. Whether they are seeking professional development in Waste and Water, Facilities Management, Highways or Health and Safety, the website offers a diverse range of courses to cater to various interests and career aspirations.

The results have led to platform stability with 2 ways data synchronisation, a huge uplift in online bookings and eCommerce transactions reducing internal staff load.

Phase 1 completed, with its complexity, phase 2 is to enhance the new back office system to replace the remaining legacy systems and provide automation of administration. Phase 3 plans include content personalisation and trainer management, and partner variants of the website, increasing sales and ROI.
