Delorean partnered with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) to replace an outdated, costly legacy CMS with a fast, modern platform powered by Headless Umbraco. The new solution makes complex security research and global missions intuitive and accessible for both experts and the public, while strictly meeting public-sector security and accessibility standards. Following launch, FBA achieved an 11% increase in user engagement, an 84% performance boost, and streamlined editorial workflows to support their ongoing mission for peace.

The challenge

The Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) is a Swedish government agency working with international peace, security, and development. When Delorean was chosen to build the new website for FBA, the main goal was simple: make complex research and international security topics easy to find and understand for everyone.

The main challenge was the wide mix of visitors. Politicians, international partners, researchers, journalists, and regular citizens all use the site, but they have completely different needs and backgrounds.

At the same time, FBA’s old website was slow, hard for editors to update, and expensive to run due to high software license fees.

The solution

The project was carried out in two main steps: a planning phase and a build phase.

First, Delorean mapped out what the different user groups actually needed. To meet strict rules on data protection (GDPR), accessibility, and multiple languages (Swedish and English), the team chose Umbraco CMS with a Headless setup. This eliminated expensive license fees, gave the team total freedom in design, and delivered the high security and speed required by a government agency.

Next, Delorean created a fresh, clear design. A reliable blue base combined with a bright yellow accent helps guide visitors and gives a subtle nod to the agency’s Swedish roots.

Key features include:

  • Interactive map: Shows FBA's international missions and projects across the globe in a visual, easy-to-follow way.

  • Smart filtering: Connects news, reports, and research by topic so users can quickly find the exact information they need.

  • Simple editor tools: Makes it fast and easy for FBA's internal team to publish and manage content.

Complex reports and articles are now easy to find and read on any screen. The agency's editors have a modern, simple backend in Umbraco that saves time every day. In addition, the Headless Umbraco setup keeps running costs down while keeping the site fast and safe.

Following the launch, Delorean continues to work with FBA as their digital partner, handling ongoing support, security updates, and new features. The website is continuously optimized and improved to support the vital work for peace, both today and tomorrow.
