AI in Umbraco for editors

AI directly in your editorial flow

AI that meets editors where they already work in the Umbraco Backoffice: on a page, in a field, in the rich text editor, in the Content and Media sections. Anywhere it makes sense for you. One click, your tone of voice, by your chosen model.

Umbraco

One click. Written in your tone of voice

Property Prompts turn AI into a button right next to the field that needs it. Editors don’t write prompts, they click, review, edit if needed, and publish. The prompt reads the surrounding content automatically, and the output runs through your brand’s tone of voice, every time.

Match the AI copy to the right audience

Not all content has the same audience or purpose. A homepage teaser, a legal disclaimer, a knowledge base article, a seasonal campaign. Each needs a different voice, and sometimes a use of a different model entirely. Profiles let you configure the model, temperature, and instructions per use case, so the AI output can match the content.

Context, built in once

Every prompt pulls from the contexts you've configured. The current page, the surrounding fields, and the rules your organisation has set: brand voice, content integrity, and audience personas. Editors don't need to describe their work to a chatbot - the AI already knows.

A copilot that supports you where you are

Umbraco Copilot is the chat that understands the page you're on, the content you've written, and the change you're making. Type it, say it out loud, upload a brief, or drop in a link, the Copilot reads it all, reacts, and suggests changes. You accept, edit, or reject, while always having a human in the loop.

FAQ

AI in Umbraco is a set of open-source packages: Umbraco.AI, Umbraco.AI.Prompt, Umbraco.AI.Agent, and Umbraco Copilot, that bring AI capabilities into the Umbraco backoffice. They’re built on top of a shared foundation (Umbraco.AI) where AI providers, profiles, governance, and guardrails are configured once by you as the user and applied consistently across every AI experience.

No. Editors trigger predefined actions (Property Prompts) that have been configured by your team. The prompt itself, the tone of voice, the model, the guardrails, all of that is set up once at the profile and prompt level, so editors just click. They can also chat with Umbraco Copilot in natural language, but they never need to know prompt engineering to get value from AI in Umbraco.

Umbraco.AI ships with connections to five providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Amazon (Bedrock), Microsoft Foundry, and many more. Visit Umbraco Marketplace for the full overview. You choose which providers and which models you want available, and which prompts and profiles use which. Different teams can use different providers side by side, with no code changes.

Always. Every AI action returns a suggestion that the editor can accept, edit, or regenerate. AI never publishes content on its own. The editor stays in charge of what goes live.

Content goes to the AI provider your organisation has selected, on the contract your organisation has signed. Umbraco doesn’t broker the API call or take a cut, meaning your prompts and content go directly to your provider of choice. Pre-Generate guardrails can block sensitive content before it ever leaves the environment (see the AI Governance page for the full picture).

Umbraco.AI and Umbraco.AI.Prompt are available now on the Umbraco Marketplace. Umbraco Copilot and additional Agent capabilities are continuously rolled out. See the product roadmap for what is being planned and when.
