How long will Umbraco 13 be supported?

  • Umbraco 13 was released on December 14, 2023, and is a Long-Term-Supported version, meaning it is supported for 3 years: 24 months Support Phase + 12 months Security Phase

  • Until December 14, 2026, Umbraco 13 is in its final Security Phase

  • At the end of the Security Phase, Umbraco 13 enters End-of-Life (EOL) on December 14, 2026.

We do not recommend using Umbraco 13 after it enters EOL.

When a software version reaches its EOL, it means that it will no longer receive updates or support from Umbraco HQ.

For Umbraco 13, this includes critical security patches and technical support. Continuing to use Umbraco 13 after EOL can expose you to security vulnerabilities and compliance issues.

Continuing to use software past its End-of-Life (EOL) date poses several significant risks:

  • Security Exposure: Without security updates, your site may be exposed to new vulnerabilities and exploits.

  • Operational Instability: EOL software can become increasingly unstable and incompatible with other systems and technologies, leading to potential downtime and operational disruptions.

  • Compliance Risks: Many industries have strict compliance requirements. Using unsupported software can lead to non-compliance.

  • Lack of Support: If issues arise, you will no longer have access to official support, making it difficult to resolve problems efficiently.

While your projects will technically continue to function after End-of-Life (EOL), we strongly advise against using Umbraco 13 after December 14, 2026. Continuing running projects on this version past this date may lead to unresolvable issues on your end.

To gain more time for planning a necessary upgrade or a complete project migration, you can opt for Extended Long-Term Support (XLTS). XLTS extends the project's support phase for an agreed-upon duration, guaranteeing ongoing access to crucial security patches and compliance support.

Projects on Umbraco Cloud follow the same EOL deadline and principles as on-prem Umbraco installations. Following the EOL date, your project will still be running, but we highly recommend you upgrade/migrate or get XLTS for your projects as automatic security patches have ended. Umbraco Cloud has an End-Of-Service policy, which for Umbraco 13 projects looks like this:

  • EOL: December 14, 2026

  • XLTS ends: December 14, 2028

  • Projects move to dedicated hosting: December 14, 2028

  • Hosting ends: December 14, 2029
